Summer Sheers -How to

No comments:
While summers can be the best time to go all in with that one sheet dress you have been dreading to wear, it can also be a difficult choice to style. Most of us shy away from sheer dresses because either we are uncomfortable in our skin or we don't know how to style it to get that oomph without making it appear tacky.

An easy tip to remember is put as much effort in picking out the underwear or inner that is going to be visible through the dress as you would pick shoes or accessories for any outfit.
An all black bodysuit or black corset and high waist panties can make a perfect backdrop for a sheer dress and make it more appropriate for an evening out or an afternoon soiree.
Do an inner in the same color as the sheer dress or top to give it a more layered look, this will help you feel less conscious as it blends the pieces together into one ensemble.

Also remember doing a sheer outfit with all over print will make it appear less transparent than if you do a solid color. The print helps by blending the fabric and the inner layer together so you can get away easily with wearing a basic or even unmatched underwear.

Wearing a mix of fabrics and textures like a leather corset with a sheer maxi skirt give the outfit a feminine touch and take the harshness away from the leather. Same is true when mixing pieces like boyfriend denims with a sheer shirt or top or masculine jacket with a sheer dress or skirt underneath.

If you are not comfortable with an extremely feminine look but still want to try see through pieces in your wardrobe, this tip can help you start with a safe balance between sheers and solids to create your look as per your style choices.

Whatever your style inspiration, a hint of sheer can also bring any ordinary outfit to a more polished look. Pairing a simple dress with a contrast or patterned sheer leggings can turn it into something you put together, rather than just another dress it becomes an outfit.

Pairing Sheers with bold statement jewelry pieces can also give a more polished look to just a basic sheer dress or top.

Resort 2013

No comments:
The Marc Jacobs Phenomenon

There’s never a dull moment in fashion when you have the likes of Marc Jacobs ruling the runway, and with his Resort 2013 collection, he has proved just that. The inner clown mixed with plaids and florals created a clashing yet such appealing and eye catching looks, we’ll never have a gloomy day as long as we stick to his style choices.  I also had this intense feeling that Tokyo Drift movie was somehow an inspiration there...just saying (loved it). With oversized or shrunken prints, the polka dots, the butterflies and the plaids, it’s such a fun riot or costume-y but so very wearable pieces, I can’t stop drooling over.

Some took me down memory lane while some inspired me to look around and find similar budget inspirations for my not so rich wardrobe. The accessories spoke for themselves too, like the polka dotted bags reminded me of the cheap fabric versions we can spot at the Indian roadside markets, also so much of it spoke bollywood for me, guess that would have to be the beauty of gaudiness.
I loved the shorts, the striped sequin cropped tee, the jersey dress, the safari coat, the digital plaid print, the lurex plaid jacquard, the florals and so much more!

Take inspiration from him and look around, go to Gap for some fabulous plaid shirts within budget or shop at H&M for striped jersey dresses.  So many colorful stripes are floating around be it A&F or Garage. But most importantly, do not be scared to mix and match, go for print with plaid or polka dots in sequin, look for bright oversized prints and pair them up with colorful accessories. All said and done, be confident in what you wear and wear what you fall in love with. Be yourself, be awesome!!

here are some of my favorites from the show...

With all the hype and hoopla!!! the Met Gala brings every year, this was no different. A quick look at the celebrity styles and the... (let's call it the) prada-parade shows a glimpse of the latest trends, how they were incorporated into celebrity styling and what basic things to look out for when out shopping. What I found was a lot of runway trends (read pret looks) for daily wear could easily be picked up by just looking at the long trail of dresses.

Watch out for colors like cobalt blue, purple, amber, orange, Pink (quite big after the event), look out for hand embroidery- if not your taste- then go for ikat/ ombre/ tie-dye. As I keep mentioning, have a tote or an evening bag in a solid or neutral color always to compensate for the wild side of your outfit.

White/ pastel and milky hues- BIG for dresses
Color blocking- still going STRONG
Collars- in contrast color/ peter pan and similar are all IN
Faux fur- if it is getting sunnier by the day then incorporate it in accessories
Single shoulder dresses and Deep V necklines are all the RAGE
Pleats- weren't even that big when we were in school wearing them all day- GET THEM

Other random things to look out for:
Since Prada is running strong, if you are like me, you might not be able to get everything in trend from them (way outta my budget folks) but get the basics right and you could achieve the same look in any brand. Grab a deal when you get for skirts/ maxi-skirts/ pleated or floral. Go to Gap, H&M or Zara, maybe even FCUK/ AX for the same. If you can fit into FCUK- Good for you girl (sadly I can't since they stop their sizes before 30' that sucks and I hate them for it but....)
Footwear- go to Aldo- they have some awesome color blocked heels, visit local stores if not labels (you never know when you will find that perfect cinderella shoe in an alley shop)
If you are a wild child (like me) go to ironfist- I am currently ado-h-rinnnng their floral oxfords

Please, you have to own a bodycon or a onesie, if not fit for your figure accessorize- pair it with a tulle skirt or denim shorts for fun, add scarves and summer stoles, wear a sheer dress on top or a net/ lace number to make it even more in trend for this season (remember athletic chic from Alexander Wang).

And if it still doesn't appeal to you, buy yourself a romper and flaunt those lovely legs you've been running with to get them to shape.

So much more we can chat about when it comes to shopping. In the end (like I always say) wear what you buy confidently and buy what you fall in love with at a glance. It is how you wear it, that makes it a show stopper! Be blessed and wild always. xx

here's a few random picks from various brands that I am totally digging right now...

So, just one week left before I fly out, by tomorrow onwards, you all will probably start hearing about the few clothes that I am carrying with me, most I am going to give away. The weather in Toronto is still full of chills so probably will carry most of my woolens but I am still not sure what to do with the loads and loads of shoes I don’t want to part with. Well, as I continue to contemplate my luggage issues, I also on the side am looking at what’s in trend and what in my budget to get me the new wardrobe. Here are a few things I am currently crazy about from SS2012 ‘in trend list’…

One can never go wrong with the one trend hitting every aspect of fashion, from high end to budget buys, shoes to handbags and more, the COLOR BLOCK look. Totally loving the lemony yellow green in the Proenza Shouler handbag, just saw Dakota Fenning sporting one of these on the web the other day. Also, while talking of handbags, remember, the FRONT FLAP look is very much in trend this year, need to have one of those in my wardrobe (at all costs ;-)). Oh! And did you also reminisce about the Christian Laubotin spiked heel, looking at the beautiful number in tan and blue? Love the lime green heels!

Another thing everybody wants in their wardrobe this year is a well structured SKIRT. It can be pleated- knife pleats are BIG this season, or it can be a full flare knee length or maxi. Also variations of pencil and tulip skirts seem to be floating around everywhere. Make it an all over floral printed number for the best look this season (saw some really cool ones at Zara and Abercrombie, you can also check out FCUK and Scotch and Soda for shirts)….

P.S. This is an old post, that was lying in my drafts for over 3 weeks, just thought of publishing it anyway.. The writing isn't complete yet, but will finish it soon. Meanwhile, check out my favorite trends this season and have a lovely weekend fashionistas. Much luv and bliss. xx
