This July, our family—my husband, our adventurous 4-year-old son, and I—continued our road trip through the Scottish Highlands with a magical 3-day stop on the breathtaking Isle of Skye. π️πΆ
The Journey to Skye: A Scenic Drive Through History ππ°
Before arriving on Skye, we made a stop at the iconic Eilean Donan Castle, a breathtaking sight set against the meeting point of three lochs. The castle’s beauty captivated us, especially our son, who was thrilled to imagine knights and castles π°⚔️. After soaking in the scenery, we set off for the Isle of Skye, winding through one of the most scenic drives we’ve ever experienced. The views of mountains, lochs, and grazing hairy coos were absolutely magical ππ
Stay at Seacrest Hotel Skye: A Slice of Peace by the Water ππ
We stayed at the Seacrest Hotel Skye, a lovely spot by the water, with mesmerising views of the ocean. The hotel had a peaceful garden where our son played sword-fighting π️. The sunsets here were breathtaking, casting the sky in hues of pink and orange π . Breakfast was a treat, and we enjoyed a quiet dinner there one evening before venturing out to local spots π½️
Exploring Skye: Fairy Pools, Fairy Glen, and Portree π§♀️π§♂️
During our time on Skye, we visited two magical spots. First, we hiked to the Fairy Pools, with their crystal-clear blue waters shimmering against the rugged Cuillin Mountains. With perfect weather and no rain, the hike was easy and delightful π
Next, we visited the enchanting Fairy Glen, a whimsical landscape of rolling hills and mysterious stone formations. Our son loved imagining fairy tales while exploring this otherworldly place ✨πΏ.Discovering Portree: Shopping, Brewery, and Dining π»π️
Portree, the island’s bustling town, offered us a mix of local charm and activities. We did some touristy shopping in the town’s market and visited the Isle of Skye Brewery, where we sampled local brews πΊ.
We also dined at Gasta Port Righ, a must-visit for any foodie, where the local fare was simply delicious π½️. The vibe in Portree, coupled with its waterfront setting, made it a perfect day of exploring π.
Missing the Harry Potter Train and Spotting Hairy Coos ππ
Although we planned to catch the Jacobite Steam Train (the Harry Potter train π), exhaustion from our drive led us to miss it. But honestly, it didn’t take away from the magic of our trip. We saw countless hairy coos and sheep grazing along the mountains, which more than made up for it ππ.
Final Thoughts: The Isle of Skye’s Timeless Beauty π
Our 3-day stay on the Isle of Skye was nothing short of magical. Between the mystical fairy pools, charming town of Portree, and the stunning landscapes, it was an adventure that will stay in our hearts forever π«. Skye is a perfect escape for families, and I highly recommend it to anyone seeking adventure and tranquillity all in one.
