The Ultimate Fashion Faux Pas

What is the ultimate fashion faux pas?

Whilst 7 in 10 women think about fashion faux pas when putting together an outfit in the morning, most of us have committed a serious crime of fashion at least once in our lives.
Some fashion mistakes you can (arguably!) get away with, like visible panty lines (VPL) under bodycon dresses, or the odd foray into double denim, but others are a little more unforgivable. Top online fashion retailer Very.co.uk surveyed 100 UK-based women aged 25-35 to find out which fashion faux pas is the ultimate no-no.
Showing too much skin came joint second in the survey, with just over 1 out of 10 respondents saying that they wouldn't go out baring legs and cleavage at the same time. Although this look may suit the ladies of Geordie Shore, the survey results reveal that British ladies like to keep it classy on a night out - well, most of the time at least!
The other runner-up in the faux pas stakes was 'ankle swingers', again with just over 1 out of 10 women selecting this option. Ankle grazing jeans were a must-have wardrobe item back in spring 2008, but now they've been relegated to the "what was I thinking?!" pile.
Ankle grazers can look fab if they're worn correctly, as the catwalk models proved, but sadly on most normal ladies it simply looks like we accidentally picked up the wrong leg size when we went jeans shopping. If you still have a pair of ankle grazers lurking in your wardrobe, remember that a good pair of boots can cover all manner of sins.
However, the ultimate fashion faux pas is one that's been infamous for years: socks with sandals. Almost half of the survey respondents felt that this particular fashion don't, most often seen on middle aged men in the Spanish Costas, is the worst mistake anyone can make when planning an outfit.

This statistic is likely to have been higher a few years ago, as socks and sandals have slowly been making their way onto our high streets and catwalks in a chic way. Knee-high socks teamed with high heel sandals were appearing on the Spring/Summer catwalks for designers as diverse as Burberry, Christian Dior and Jean Paul Gaultier. So, perhaps even this ultimatefashion faux pas could be dethroned in future – watch this space!...
