Are you a NERD too?

3 comments:

So, what happened today was, I was trying out new layouts for my blog as I think I could do with a fresh look and while looking through the design templates on blogger, my stupid laptop froze, as in hanged totally (not that I blame you entirely dear laptop, I know it’s high time I replaced your batteries and upgraded your RAM) and I, being the impatient drama queen that I am, started randomly pressing the keys to get it back to work. Now, those of you who are on my twitter timeline would know exactly what happened and how I reacted to it, but for all you other folks, here’s the story…

When my laptop got back to its normal functions, I realized that the template I was just trying out got applied to my blog and VOILA! There I was totally panicked. I could not believe that just happened. I had no idea where I had saved my original blogger template and frankly, for a moment or two I wasn’t particularly sure, if I had at all saved it somewhere. The new template would not have freaked me out that much, if my sidebar hadn’t disappeared like extinguished species and if I had a little more patience. Well, moving on, I tried to find the original template online, to reinstall but simply couldn’t, cause it has been over two years since I first downloaded it and simply didn’t remember where from.  Okay! Here I was totally lost and felt as though my boyfriend just broke up with me and left me in a mess. Really my blog was a mess (only for about half an hour) and I was busy ranting away my desperation on twitter, calling my husband up at his work and well…almost in tears. Went downstairs, grabbed a cookie, cursed blogger, kind of slapped my laptop screen a little (Shhh!) threw away random stuff from my bed (I am moving countries in 10 days people, my house, my bed everything is crowded, messy and a bit out of order).

Suddenly I realized that I did save my blogger layout- I am in a habit of doing this from time to time, even taking full back up of my blog! Trust me you never know! But I could not find it anywhere because I was looking by the wrong name, now I thought, my blog template was named scrapbook- which of course it isn’t (feels like scrapbook to me, that’s a different story for some other time).  Anyway, I finally found the saved template, imagine my relief!

And there it was my old blog layout, just one click away.

It just made me realize how big a nerd I am, because I almost had a heart attack when, for a second there, I thought I will never see my old blog again. I do agree, now that I know I have it safe in my laptop, I am feeling brave and will probably try out new looks for my blog soon, maybe even tonight, but surely after my breathing gets back to normal (I am still palpitating from the shock).

So I simply want to ask you all- is this how a nerd gets a nervous breakdown?  Possibly! Like when a gadget breaks or a website goes down or if an online game isn’t going as planned, I guess so. Are you all as possessive and attached to your blogs/ websites or whatever other online world you have created for yourselves? Do you also think about your blog first, when planning a vacation or a long trip? And do you miss your blog too when you can’t reach it at least twice every day?

Is our blog becoming the partner we want for the rest of our lives? Listening to our daily dose of ‘what I like’, ‘what I want’ and more, spending hours online browsing through websites and shopping portals… Is our blog slowly turning us into a computer slave? Are you like me, spending more time with your laptop than reading a book or actually going out? Hmm… tell me what your relationship with your blog/website is like, would love to know more on this thought!

I am what I am...

No comments:
I want to have a bicycle with a big basket in the front that will always be filled with fresh flowers and then I would roam around town (preferably somewhere in old European towns), all day long, just enjoying life. I love sunny summer colored flowers, especially canary yellow, also purple orchids and all shades of orange. Not so much a red rose girl, nah! I have a fascination with old French doors and windows, sometimes I spend hours on Google just looking at old French houses, perhaps I was a French architect or a French poet in my past life, or so I have myself believe *smiles.
I do sometimes wish I had a huge metal hanging bird cage with a singing canary inside it, but then I realize that I probably will become very sad just looking at the bird in the cage. I like to believe a bird has to fly and that is the end of discussion. Oh! And I have a deep seated love for the comfy love-seats and soft fabric sofas, just give me a book, a café mocha and I am ready to lie down with a bunch of cushions and me. Yeah! I have recently started feeling, I am a very private and solitary person, who cherishes and enjoys her own company. Always thought I was more of a people person, maybe loneliness isn’t so much of a fear but a pleasure I enjoy from time to time. God! I am seriously getting old *says the 28year old! Ha-ha...
I love water! And all things aquatic, just couple of month’s back I got to go snorkeling for the first time and it was majestic!  I also feel things feel so much happier with a splash of color. Black and white is romantic after sundown but color me up for a sunny day. I wish there was a fest where everyone would gather and color the Eiffel tower, with a lot of wine and cheese later, would be a lot of fun! And talking of Eiffel tower, so many people are scared of heights, not me, I am shit scared *spare my choice of words* of giant merry-go rounds and steep water slides, hell yeah! Phew! Oh, since I was a kid, I love to make those DIY marble paintings, remember? Pour some fabric paint in a dish filled with water, dip the paper in- out- let it dry and Voila! Love those. And talking of colors, I am an addict for colored sneakers, if it were my way I would own every color available.
I love wall papers and rooms filled with handmade crafty paintings and wall hangings.  And one day I want to buy the costliest and dreamiest canopy bed available. Yup, also the biggest, with lots and lots of sheer curtains trailing around in pretty pastels *dreaming already. What can I say; I am a day dreamer, a dream weaver. I am what I am! Be yourself, be awesome!! Have a fabulous weekend. Much love to all. xx

Spring Summer 2012

1 comment:
What to look out for when out shopping...

Yesterday I wrote about the 3 most influential trends this summer, the ikat, tribal and other motif prints, the lace comeback in a big scale and finally the super wedge look. Along with those, we discussed the few other looks for the season, namely, the cigarette pants and skinny jeans, the cropped pants/ jeans look, the shorts coming back in all its glory, the neon colors, bright shades and color block, also the sheer look and athletic chic, i.e. the sports inspired designs.
Today, let's talk about a few more elements imperative to this spring summer's wardrobe.

SS2012 trend spotting: #04 SKIRTS: high waist, asymmetric hem, maxi, tribal print, color block, flowy, denim, pencil and more. All that you know of skirts and more is in trend, the biggest eye candy for the season being: KNIFE PLEATS, Yes, that's another trend that is back, not just knife pleats but box pleats and tucks in dresses, skirts, trousers and more. But coming back to skirts, this summer is going to be a fun filled one, with all the prints, pleats and florals flowing around. Also look out for sportswear inspired designs in skirts, very big this season. And everyone should own a structured piece this year, or a skirt/ blouse with peplum, so SS2012. Check out these few I love from the nordstrom online store..

Nic + Zoe 'Painted Stripe Flirt' Skirt $129

kate spade new york 'judy' skirt $278

MARC BY MARC JACOBS 'Hannah' Jersey Ruffle Peplum Skirt $168

MARC BY MARC JACOBS 'Ellsworth' Structural Taffeta Skirt $278

SS2012 trend spotting: #05 PRINTS: aquatic, florals, galaxy and more, this summer brings a kaleidoscope of prints. Seen a lot of over sized blown up florals, a lot of oceanic and galaxy inspired motifs, a whole collection was based out of a neon beam print and we all love prabal gurung's florals and the cow inspired prints. There are also a lot of Spanish and Hawaiian inspirations, a lot of gypsy drama is visible in the collections and the palette is anywhere, from bright neons to calming pastels.
Check out this snake print wrap dress below, simple adorable and inviting summer into our wardrobes...

Of Sunflowers and daffodils..

No comments:
Spring is upon us and if we look around, there are days that glitter bright with sunshine and greenery everywhere. It is also the time to go out and get a new, fresh wardrobe to celebrate the summer. This year, for spring summer, the runways ruled with a few trends that are going to define the whole look of the season. The main emphasis went to tribal and folk motifs, crafted prints, a lot of florals, a lot of lace and structured silhouettes. A whole lot of emphasis also went on reviving the vintage styles, silhouettes and taking that inspiration and putting it into something new, like for example, peplums were present across the globe, also note the lace leggings and blouses. A major part of the spring runway was also ruled by the sportswear inspired trend, or as we know it 'the athletic chic'.
Below are a few looks, new additions and latest for spring shopping from the
nordstrom online store but first, a beautiful springtime poem by none other than my favorite William Wordsworth.

Daffodils
a poem
by William Wordsworth

I wandered lonely as a cloud
That floats on high o'er vales and hills,
When all at once I saw a crowd,
A host, of golden daffodils;
Beside the lake, beneath the trees,
Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.

Continuous as the stars that shine
And twinkle on the milky way,
They stretched in never-ending line
Along the margin of a bay:
Ten thousand saw I at a glance,
Tossing their heads in sprightly dance.

The waves beside them danced, but they
Out-did the sparkling leaves in glee;
A poet could not be but gay,
In such a jocund company!
I gazed—and gazed—but little thought
What wealth the show to me had brought:

For oft, when on my couch I lie
In vacant or in pensive mood,
They flash upon that inward eye
Which is the bliss of solitude;
And then my heart with pleasure fills,
And dances with the daffodils.

SS2012 trend spotting: #01 global culture influences: Be it Africa, India or Bali - fashion inspirations are pouring in from the most exotic of locations and the most creative of crafts.
the mantra being, the bolder the better. Look out for major fashion favorites like Ikat print, Tribal motifs and while at it, try going for the cigarette pants/ skinny jeans look that is so in this year. Also a big trend for SS2012 are shorts: from denim to silk, chiffon even lace, from florals to bold prints to color blocked.

Robert Rodriguez Crop Polka Dot Silk Pants $295

7 For All Mankind® Printed Denim Crop Skinny Jeans (Toffee Ikat Print) $189

Free People Print Shorts $50

SS2012 trend spotting: #02 Lace: Lace is a very big trend, seen across the runways, in different styles and silhouettes, it remains a big influence for this summer. Be it layered, with a bright, neon shade underneath or used for leggings, dresses or complete outfit, also seen a lot of lingerie inspired styles with lace and sheer fabrics. Just spotted beautiful ballet flats made with nude colored lace in the mall across the street from me.

Free People Gathered Tie Neck Lace Top $98

Robert Rodriguez oversized layered lace top $265

SS2012 trend spotting: #03 the wedge: biggest footwear trend this summer is without doubt, the wedge, from high heels to flat soles, in peep toe, sandals or booties, wedge heels are everywhere. To get the most out of this trend, combine it with another one-'the neon/bright colors' or 'color block' and you got yourself a shoe that can complete your summer wardrobe. There is a whole range of wedges in different styles and fit for any budget. Remember, the bolder, the better, wedge heels look great with anything, from a fitted trouser to a flowy skirt. Check out these few picks below, starting from just $25, going up to as high as $600. Love them.

Spring Summer 2012 wardrobe ideas

As the cherry blossoms start to bloom, we get busy with our spring cleaning and the whole idea of a sunny bright summer comes to life as our wardrobe starts to shed its layers of wool and fur and goes brighter and lighter with a lot more fun in it. So I decided to do this post, particularly to help you all and me included, in coming up with some looks and to have some handy ideas and pointers in mind while we go shopping. Now, for those of you, who are new to my blog, I am making a big move, shifting countries and cultures in just 3 weeks. I am moving from South Africa to Canada, and this feels like the right opportunity to throw away my current wardrobe and start a fresh for the summers ahead, hence this post (it is as I said before, more of my own little journal to refer back to when I go shopping).
Now, a few things to look out for while roaming the malls:
Ikat/ tribal motif prints and over-all printed patterns, deep V-necks, jumpsuits, single shoulder necklines, oversized bags, platforms, bright colors and bold prints.
Navy instead of black, box pleats, blouses, dip dye, floral prints, tiered skirts and dresses, flow and softness in style.
Athletic Chic, peplums and pockets, lot of hoodies, body-cons and bombers, bright layers inside sheers, pointy and strappy pumps (so nineties, so very cool) and sexy street chic.
In a nutshell.....the runway looks were:
COLORS: mainly navy, whites, black, cobalt and indigo blue also.
Other colors spotted were -

-a shade of apple green closer to yellow- was a bright and pretty color that came up for SS2012.
-there were oranges, pinks and aqua tones, making their way in between blacks n greys, deep mustard and sunny yellows along with a pastel yellow.

TREATEMENTS: ikat, dip dye, laser cut, distress

whites were flowy in georgettes and lace- very fairy like feel to them. There was a lot of sheer as a trend seen across the shows
SILHOUETTE: body-con, slouchy jumpsuits and bombers, micro florals, tiers and pleats, wide leg pants
STYLE: athletic chic- sportswear inspired garments ruled the runway for SS2012, hippie street girl
FOOTWEAR: platforms and pumps, pointy toes, bright colors, high heels
BAGS: oversized, bright, old patterns
