Spring Summer 2013: Trend Alert!!

No comments:
The key trends to shine out this ready-to-wear show were:

LACE- going to be big next year; if you want, experiment with crochet and net and lace along with tulle and other light weight fabrics and give it your own twist. Try to work with accent pieces or accessories with this trend (think Jason Wu, Christopher Kane and Alexander Wang for a modern twist on a classic such as this one)

Big Floral and Paisley Prints-Statement PrinTs are the big trend and the bigger the better (think Etro, Anna Sui, Thakoon, Mara Hoffman, Prada)

Structured Pieces- read: Corsets!! cinched waists, empire and princess seams, enhanced shoulder and hips, clean cuts and obi belts. (references are everywhere on the runway, check out cropped jackets, peplums, waist belts, leather mixed with softer fabrics, etc. Some designers to check out include but not limited to: Vera Wang, Zac Posen, Calvin Klein...)

European, namely, French references, along with influences from mid- nineteenth century and the eighties- VintAge is the new ModeRn this summer! (think: Marc Jacobs, Thakoon and more..) Check out the suspenders inspired seams and panels from the BCBG show or the scarfs and sweaters tied around the waist from the Marc Jacobs show for retro impressions!

Acid tones of Yellow and Green leading on to GOLD- a very promising color as seen on the RTW2013 runways: everywhere from DKNY to Vera Wang, Betsey Johnson, Jonathan Saunders, Burberry and many more.

Sportswear Influences

Brocade

Scarfs

Stripes and Checks, combined at times with paisley and floral motifs

Monochrome

Shades of the Sun- especially ORANGE and its hues are big for SS2013, it is a fresh new summer colour to appear and can be a shocking electric bright or in pastel peachy tones, as per your style preferences. (think Rachel Zoe, Betsey Johnson, Peter Som, Paul Smith, Burberry,

Things to remember at the glance when out shopping:- keep your eyes open for... A-line skirts, Cropped Jackets, Shirt dresses, Obi belts, Black, White, Blue, Yellow, Green, Gold, Red, Orange, Sequins, Acid Yellow, Brocade, Leather, Tulle, Lace...

Pics coming soon.xx

Spring 2013

My favorite picks from the Spring 2013 collection...

The inspiration came from the eighties and took me down the memory lane....of my childhood and all things retro. The bold striped pants, the high waisted swimsuit knickers, crew neck sweaters with a mock V-neck knitted in the front (reminisce of the old men's sweatshirts), also the scarfs around the waist and neck all a sweet blast from the past.
Pastels were seen in full glory, as was a very dominant color in almost all the collections: Gold. Peplums still run big along with matching coats and trousers/ skirts. Checks and stripes go bold and big and are constantly put in together, a fresh mix of floral/ paisley with checks or stripes adds fun to the outfits. Obi belts seem to be making a comeback in various prints and colors.

Big trend to be:
my guess is...be hands on and dig out all your old scarfs, stoles and headbands- the huge fabric tie one's! Also flaunt your wayfarers still and go crazy on colorful socks with flip flops and closed toe shoes (the one's like we had in school). Definitely take gold and silver and mix them with pastel hues, pastels in blue and light grey are going to be big, just as shades of the sun will be too. It's a comeback of the 80's so nice mix-n-match of prints, stripes and checks together with a giant tote and a cheerful attitude should do the trick.xx

Quick handy DIY decor

Using empty perfume bottles to display flowers....
Tip: stack them together with similar flowers/ colors to create a beautiful space.

Be careful while taking the metal cap out of the bottle, handle it delicately and use a scissor or small pliers.

Inspired Much!

...browsed through these the other week...this was the India- Lakme Fashion Week for Fall2012 (all pics via the facebook fan page for Lakme Fashion Week)
There are some favourite designers of mine who always surprise me, some I saw this time were new names, a few did awesome work worth mentioning while quite a few disappointed me...
here's my picks:
First, a mention of the designers I loved this season. As usual a spectacular show by my long time favourite, Ritu Beri, check out the pic with model Jessi in a white hat and embroidered shirt with frills, love the whole Mexican-mix-Indian feel to it.
Also the grand finale this year, that was split between two design houses, namely Kallol Dutta and Pankaj and Nidhi, presented beautiful silhouettes and prints with monochrome pallette along with a few colored all-over printed pieces. Hard to say, but so many of the all over prints through out the fashion week somehow looked inspired, they reminded me of work by Manish Arora, Kundalini Arts and Prabal Gurung (I will explain in detail a few later).
I should also mention Anita Dongre and Wendell Rodricks, two very famous and extremely talented designers I always fall in love with all over again at every fashion week. Two new names, that I came across and was pleasantly surprised by the work were, Nupur Kanoi and Richa Agarwal.

Now, for the designers I felt took it a bit too far with their inspirations this year...
Sailex- check out the awkward resemblance to Prabal Gurung in his gray tulle gown! Inspired Much!?!
Another new designer duo that could have well sold their garments in the grey market with a Christopher Kane label on them was that of Mayank Anand and Shraddha Nigam.
Neeta Lulla seemed inspired by the Kundalini Arts paintings while Payal Singhal's work felt like an extension to the latest Chanel Lip color advert (the one with a mirror mask over the model's face).

A few designers I felt were just not good enough included Abhishek Dutta, Ken Ferns, SS Surya- there were a few more names to this list that I can't seem to remember now- mostly all new names, guess they need more fine tuning to establish themselves in the fashion business.

Anyhow, without further ado, here are the pics:
